In the first verse of the song the writer acknowledges not to be wiser as she grew older. She says that she is just getting older rather than being more sensible. At the midnights, all those people in her life, whom she’s scared of, comes in her room like ghosts, and at that time of the night her depression is on peak and it never ended before the dawn. ‘Graveyard shift’ here means the period from midnight till morning.
